Before you look back to the life you once knew…ThiNK IT THROUGH!!!
I don’t know what might have been in your life, but I do know that NOT looking back to “salty attachments” in my life is the result of heeding a biblical tale of old.
One of the most poignant stories I have ever read comes from Genesis.
Here a family of people were given the chance to leave a very precarious situation. They were given the opportunity to leave it behind, with the promise that something better awaited them.
What they were leaving, what they may have lost was to be of no consequence.
There was only one caveat. Don’t Look Back!
Lot ran, his daughters close behind. “But his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
The Hebrew for “looked back” means more than to glance over one’s shoulder.
It means “to regard, to consider, to pay attention to.”
How often have any of us longed for the assumed safety of what we already know? Our cushy comfort zone, so to speak?
Whenever I’m tempted to do an about face to the point that I have to fight with myself to keep going in a new direction, instead of turning around, I shout:
“YE OF LITTLE FAITH!”
It helps.
In my mind anything up ahead is better than the fire and brimstone of bad choices, ill-begotten dreams, dodgy relationships, and a myriad of other assorted stifling memories.
This is why the fateful story of Lot’s wife has stuck with me from the time I read it to this day.
I can leave the past, knowing that something better lies in the future.
Even if it isn’t promised right away, I dare not look back.
I don’t fear being turned into a pillar of salt, but I still feel that symbolically I will be punishing my future if I don’t truly believe that a better future is promised, and keep moving forward.
We all are given a choice, and the guidance; perhaps even maybe by our guardian angels.
So…I admonish you to not allow your head to breach your shoulder.
Instead, ask yourself…
- What was back there then that I still value now?
- What was back there that I still believe I can’t live without now?
Then ask yourself…
- What if I could?
- How will I do it?
- Which tools am I carrying right now that I can use now to assist in totally leaving back there behind?
OK! So salt probably won’t rain down on you covering your whole body for all eternity. You most likely will not still be standing where you wish you weren’t.
But whatever your Sodom and Gomorrah…
LET IT BURN!!!

This really did resonate with me. I’m in a bit of a slow mode at the moment but I’m not one for looking back. Always forward.

Asking is better than ignoring. When we are aware, we begin to build rather than destroy.

Thanks for another reminder, as one friend recently told me ” there is a beginning and an ending to everything.” Whether it is trying to maintain relationships with old friends who are always busy or re-entering ceremonies once practiced, it may be time to “let go.”
